Fun, Fun, Fun - The Beach Boys

Fun, Fun, Fun was a hit song released in 1964 by the Beach Boys.

This was written by Brian Wilson and Mike Love about Dennis Wilson's relationship with a girl from a rich family in Palos Verdes, Los Angeles. She used to tell her father she was going to study at the library in order to borrow his Ford Thunderbird. Instead of driving to the library, she met Dennis at his apartment. Dennis said, "So we'll have fun, 'til her Daddy takes the T'bird away." This became the hook line for the song.

The Wilsons' father, Murry, always the critical conservative, denounced the whole idea for the song as immoral, and tried to prevent the group from recording it. The song, backed by a single-only mix of a cover version of Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers' "Why Do Fools Fall In Love", became a top-five hit. This argument set the seed for further deterioration in the family. It finally led to Murry being sacked as Beach Boys manager a few months later when "I Get Around" was about to become the first number-one single for the Beach Boys.

The song was covered in 1996 by the then-current lineups of The Beach Boys and Status Quo, with a new verse written for the song. The Beach Boys sang mainly backing vocals, with Status Quo's Francis Rossi performing the lead vocal for the entire song, except the new verse, which was sung by Mike Love.

The opening electric guitar introduction of the song was lifted directly from Chuck Berry's Johnny B. Goode, released in 1955.

The Beach Boys/Status Quo re-release in 1996.

Scroll and Sing:
Well she got her Daddy's car and she cruised to the hamburger stand now
Seems she forgot all about the library like she told her old man now
And with the radio blasting goes cruising just as fast as she can now
And she'll have fun fun fun 'til her Daddy takes the T-bird away

Well the girls can't stand her 'cos she walks, looks and drives like an ace now
She makes the Indy 500 look like a Roman chariot race now
A lot of guys try to catch her but she leads them on a wild goose chase now
And she'll have fun fun fun 'til her Daddy takes the T-bird away

Well she's making a turn and it looks like she's coming around now
And I'm a little concerned 'cos the town is closing on down now
Well I jump in the 'bird for some good-time getting around now
And we'll have fun fun fun 'til her Daddy takes the T-bird away
Fun fun fun 'til her Daddy takes the T-bird away

Well you knew all along that your Dad was getting wise to you now
And since he took your set of keys you've been thinking that your fun is all through now
But you can come along with me 'cos we got a lot of things to do now
And you'll have fun fun fun now that Daddy took the T-bird away
Fun fun fun now that Daddy took the T-bird away
