Blurb:
"Robert De Niro's Waiting..." is a song written and recorded by English girl group Bananarama. It was the second single released from their self-titled second album in 1984.
At the time of the track's release, the members of Bananarama were receiving a lot of criticism from the UK music press, who labelled the trio as a "cover versions" band whose producers and writers controlled their output. "Robert De Niro's Waiting..." was one of several tracks on the Bananarama album which tackled more serious lyrical topics. The "talking Italian" line in the chorus, however, was added by producer Steve Jolley to give the song a more "pop" feel and Bananarama members Sara Dallin, Siobhan Fahey and Keren Woodward "hated" it, but eventually kept the line in to end the arguments about it.
The single is one of the group's strongest performing releases, peaking at number three in the UK singles chart (the single to date stands in a three-way tie as Bananarama's highest-charting UK hit). It made a brief appearance on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number ninety-five.

Hope's dashed to the floor like shattered teenage dreams
Boys living next door are never what they seem
A walk in the park can become a bad dream
People are staring and following me
This is my only escape from it all
Watching a film or a face on the wall
Robert de Niro's waiting
talking italian.
Robert de Niro's waiting
talking italian.
Robert de Niro's waiting
talking italian.
Robert de Niro's waiting
talking italian.
I don't need a boy
I've a got a man of steel
Don't come any closer
I don't wanna feel
You're breathing
you're touching
but nothing's for free
I never want this to happen to me
Don't try to change me
you're wasting your time
Now I've got something much better in mind
Robert de Niro's waiting
talking italian.
Robert de Niro's waiting
talking italian.
Robert de Niro's waiting
talking italian.
Robert de Niro's waiting
talking italian.
